Supported living

L'Arche supported living allows people with a learning disability to take control of their life through dedicated support in their own homes, with the knowledge that there is a community of friends to which they can turn for help, support or just a bit of fun!
L'Arche believes that relationship and friendship enriches us all. However, L'Arche also believes that people with a learning disability should be supported, as much as possible, to develop the life skills they need and to live the life they choose.
Many of the people with learning disabilities who are members of our community live away from the community houses, in houses or flats of their own. They have their own front door key, their own tenancy. Some receive several hours of support from L'Arche each day so that they can live as independently as possible, others receive just a few hours a week of support. What unites these people who live in L'Arche Kent's Supported Living project is an enjoyment of the freedom to make choices for themselves and a desire to keep in touch with the community and enjoy the life and friendships it offers them.
"I love my flat! I have my own room with a bathroom and kitchen. And I even have a spare room for friends and family when they come down to visit me.
I love being part of L'Arche too. I have lots of friend here and I'm never lonely! I drop in to the houses for a meal some evenings, I meet people from the community in the high street and I see people at the workshop. If I ever get bored, I just call in to one of the houses and see what they're up to "
