Volunteer with L'Arche

You are young, old, British, foreign, tall, small, female, male, student, artist, married, single, and you have some spare hours to offer each week.

You are exactly the person we are looking for!

L’Arche Kent is continually seeking people who are willing to volunteer - from two hours up to a couple of days a week - in one of our workshops. So if you could imagine working alongside us and sharing some time with people with a learning disability you are more than welcome to join us.

Volunteering with L'Arche Kent is an invaluable way to meet new friends, build relationships and see the world through new eyes. Volunteers help us in our craft workshop in St Radigunds - helping Mary make candles, Yvonne weaving rugs and in turning Peter's art work into greetings cards and wrapping paper. In our therapeutic workshop, "the Wellspring", they help Dean express himself through art, dance with Phoebe or go for a walk with Annie. In the office, volunteers help James train our future assistants, help Anne design newsletters and file papers and help Gillian plan events for the community.

"Volunteers expand the L'Arche world, introducing new energy, ideas and fun into the community- they're the reason why our community is so vibrant and welcoming."

- James Cuming, Assistants Coordinator

English-speaking volunteers

We are particularly keen to find English-speaking volunteers who can spare an hour or two every week or fortnight to help some of our assistants develop their English. Our assistants have often travelled half way across the world to join our community and build on the ideals of Jean Vanier, from Nepal, Korea, Germany, Botswana amongst other places, and want to develop their English whilst with us and meet people outside of our community. If you are able to help, please mention this on your Volunteer Application Form.
